Google Analytics MCP server: ask questions, get governed answers

Google Analytics is a web and app analytics service; it holds sessions, users, traffic sources, conversions and page or screen engagement data.

Try it on your own data in a pilot.

Google Analytics dashboard questions you can ask

Typical questions from marketing and web teams. Each answer shows the definition, source and query behind it.

  • How many sessions did the website get by channel last month?
  • Which landing pages had the highest bounce rate this quarter?
  • Compare conversions this month with the same month last year.
  • What are the top 10 pages by views over the last 30 days?
  • Which countries drove the most new users this quarter?
  • Show weekly active users by device category for the last 12 weeks.

Worked example: a governed Google Analytics answer

One question, and everything the answer shows so you can check it. The figures are invented sample data.

How many sessions and key events did each channel drive in September?

Approved definition: Sessions and key events by channel

GA4 sessions and key events grouped by the session default channel group, in the property's time zone, for the calendar month.

Source

  • GA4 property (sessionDefaultChannelGroup, sessions, keyEvents)

Query (GA4 Data API request)

POST /v1beta/properties/{propertyId}:runReport
dateRanges: [{ startDate: "2026-09-01", endDate: "2026-09-30" }]
dimensions: [{ name: "sessionDefaultChannelGroup" }]
metrics: [{ name: "sessions" }, { name: "keyEvents" }]

Result

Common pitfalls when asking Google Analytics questions

Each one is settled once in an approved definition, so every person and every assistant gets the same answer.

  • Session channel versus first-user channel

sessionDefaultChannelGroup credits each visit; firstUserDefaultChannelGroup credits how a user first arrived. They answer different questions.

  • Thresholding on small numbers

GA4 can withhold rows with low user counts to protect privacy, so a narrow breakdown may not add up to the total.

  • Recent data still processing

The last day or two can change as GA4 finishes processing. The definition can end date ranges at a settled day.

How Nexatron connects to Google Analytics

Whose permissions
Each person connects their own Google Analytics account, so answers return only the records that person can already see in Google Analytics.
Read and write
Read-only. Nexatron reads Google Analytics data to answer questions and never writes to Google Analytics.
Setup
Sign-in happens on the vendor's own OAuth consent screen; Nexatron never sees a password. Steps: choose the source → check prerequisites → enter connection details → approve access → verify → ask. No data migration and no pipeline to build: data is queried where it lives.

Google Analytics MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Nexatron's hosted MCP server is a governed Google Analytics MCP connector: Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot ask questions of your Google Analytics data through it. Each person signs in as themselves, so the assistant sees only what they may see.

Connect Google Analytics to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot

  1. Connect Google Analytics to your Nexatron workspace.
  2. In Claude, add Nexatron from Claude's connector directory. In ChatGPT or Copilot, add a custom MCP connector with the server URL https://api.nexatron.io/api/v1/mcp.
  3. Sign in with your own Nexatron identity (OAuth 2.1), then ask your Google Analytics questions.
How the Nexatron MCP server works

Google Analytics connector FAQ

Can I ask Google Analytics questions without writing queries?
Yes. The connector is available now. Ask in Teams, Slack, the Nexatron web app, or an AI assistant connected through Nexatron's MCP server.
Does Nexatron respect Google Analytics permissions?
Yes. With a personal connection, answers return only the Google Analytics records that person can already see.
Can Nexatron change data in Google Analytics?
No. Nexatron only reads Google Analytics data.
What do I need to connect Google Analytics?
A user who can approve access on the vendor's own sign-in screen.
Is there a Google Analytics MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
Yes: Nexatron's hosted MCP server, once Google Analytics is connected to your workspace. It is Nexatron's server, not one published by Google Analytics, and the assistant gets the same governed answer as the Nexatron app.
Can Nexatron replace a Google Analytics dashboard?
It complements one. Standard GA4 reports and dashboards stay useful; Nexatron answers new questions, shows the dimensions and metrics it used, and can put web data next to CRM or revenue data when those are connected.
Why can a Google Analytics answer differ from the GA4 interface?
Usually because of scope or timing: session versus first-user channel, thresholding on small counts, or recent days still processing. Nexatron shows the exact dimensions, metrics and date range, so the difference can be traced.

Try Nexatron on your own Google Analytics data

A pilot starts with three questions your team already asks and the report you trust for each, so you can check the answers yourself.

Google Analytics is a trademark of its owner. Nexatron is not affiliated with or endorsed by it; the name and mark identify the system Nexatron connects to.
