MySQL MCP server: ask questions, get governed answers

MySQL is an open-source relational database; it holds application and operational tables such as orders, customers, products, payments and inventory.

Try it on your own data in a pilot.

MySQL AI analytics: what you can ask

Typical questions from operations and analytics teams. Each answer shows the definition, source and query behind it.

  • What was net revenue by region last quarter, using our approved revenue definition?
  • How many orders were placed each day over the last 30 days?
  • Who are our top 20 customers by lifetime spend?
  • Which products have stock below their reorder threshold?
  • Which product lines had the largest margin change month over month?
  • Compare new customer signups this month versus the same month last year.

Worked example: a governed MySQL answer

One question, and everything the answer shows so you can check it. The figures are invented sample data.

How many orders were placed each day over the last week?

Approved definition: Orders placed

Orders created in the day (store time zone), excluding cancelled and test orders, with order value before tax and shipping.

Source

  • shop.orders

Query (SQL (MySQL))

SELECT DATE(o.created_at) AS order_date,
       COUNT(*) AS orders,
       SUM(o.subtotal_amount) AS order_value
FROM shop.orders o
WHERE o.status NOT IN ('cancelled', 'test')
  AND o.created_at >= CURDATE() - INTERVAL 7 DAY
  AND o.created_at <  CURDATE()
GROUP BY DATE(o.created_at)
ORDER BY order_date;

Result

Sample data: daily orders over the last week, invented figures
DateOrdersOrder value
Oct 6412$31,840
Oct 7398$30,110
Oct 8455$35,270
Oct 9431$33,020
Oct 10502$39,660
Oct 11367$27,480
Oct 12344$25,930

Common pitfalls when asking MySQL questions

Each one is settled once in an approved definition, so every person and every assistant gets the same answer.

  • DATETIME has no time zone

DATETIME values are stored as written, while TIMESTAMP converts to the session zone. The definition fixes the zone, so daily totals do not shift.

  • Case-insensitive comparisons

Default collations treat 'Cancelled' and 'cancelled' as equal, and may ignore trailing spaces. Status filters can match more rows than expected.

  • Zero dates

Older schemas use '0000-00-00' as "no date". Without a filter these rows fall into odd buckets or break date maths.

How Nexatron connects to MySQL

Whose permissions
Questions run through the connection's MySQL account, so its grants are the outer limit. Inside that, Nexatron roles and the row policies your administrator defines decide what each person can see.
Read and write
Read-only. Nexatron reads MySQL data to answer questions and never writes to MySQL.
Setup
An administrator connects a database user with a username and password. Steps: choose the source → check prerequisites → enter connection details → verify → ask. No data migration and no pipeline to build: data is queried where it lives.

MySQL MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Nexatron's hosted MCP server is a governed MySQL MCP connector: Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot ask questions of your MySQL data through it. Each person signs in as themselves, so the assistant sees only what they may see.

Connect MySQL to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot

  1. Connect MySQL to your Nexatron workspace.
  2. In Claude, add Nexatron from Claude's connector directory. In ChatGPT or Copilot, add a custom MCP connector with the server URL https://api.nexatron.io/api/v1/mcp.
  3. Sign in with your own Nexatron identity (OAuth 2.1), then ask your MySQL questions.

MySQL connector FAQ

Can I ask MySQL questions without writing queries?
Yes. The connector is available now. Ask in Teams, Slack, the Nexatron web app, or an AI assistant connected through Nexatron's MCP server.
Does Nexatron respect MySQL permissions?
Yes. The MySQL account's grants are the outer limit, and your row policies narrow it for each person.
Can Nexatron change data in MySQL?
No. Nexatron only reads MySQL data.
What do I need to connect MySQL?
A database user and an administrator to connect it.
Is there a MySQL MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
Yes: Nexatron's hosted MCP server, once MySQL is connected to your workspace. It is Nexatron's server, not one published by MySQL, and the assistant gets the same governed answer as the Nexatron app.
Can AI write MySQL queries safely for business users?
With guard rails, yes. Questions are read-only, the connection's MySQL user is the outer limit, queries follow approved definitions, and each answer shows its SQL. Grant the user SELECT on only the schemas you want answered.
Do I still need a MySQL dashboard tool?
Keep dashboards for the views you watch daily. Nexatron answers the questions in between, with the same definitions, without someone building a new chart first.

Try Nexatron on your own MySQL data

A pilot starts with three questions your team already asks and the report you trust for each, so you can check the answers yourself.

MySQL is a trademark of its owner. Nexatron is not affiliated with or endorsed by it; the name and mark identify the system Nexatron connects to.
