Reconcile a conversational forecast with Salesforce

A conversational forecast should be reconciled with the exact Salesforce view the business uses. Forecast category, stage, expected close date, amount type, currency, and ownership can all affect the result. A matching label such as "quarterly forecast" does not establish that two reports implement the same calculation.
Compare like with like
Begin by asking whether the requested number is a committed forecast, a weighted pipeline estimate, an unweighted pipeline total, or another approved measure. These may be useful side by side, but they should not be substituted for each other. The source owner should identify the official reference and explain the assumptions behind it before the demonstration begins.
Freeze the comparison window
Run the reference report and the conversational question close enough together that source changes are unlikely to dominate the comparison. Record the execution times and any snapshot conventions. Opportunities can change during a busy sales day, so an unexplained difference may reflect timing rather than an analytical error. That possibility must be investigated rather than assumed.
If the reference uses a saved snapshot, identify its as-of date. A current-state query cannot reproduce a historical snapshot unless the required historical data exists and is selected. Keep this limitation explicit. It is especially important when an executive asks why the forecast changed since the previous meeting, which requires evidence about movement as well as current totals.
Work from total to components
Compare the overall figure, then break the difference down by a small set of relevant dimensions. Stage, forecast category, owner, region, or currency may reveal the source of the discrepancy. Avoid changing several filters at once. A disciplined reconciliation should explain the gap rather than merely finding a prompt that happens to reproduce the reference total.
Select representative opportunities from the difference and inspect their treatment. Check whether an excluded record, a converted amount, or a changed category accounts for it. Record the resulting definition in language business users understand. This turns a one-time troubleshooting session into a reusable reporting agreement that can support future questions.
Preserve uncertainty in the narrative
A forecast is an estimate about a future outcome, even when the calculation is perfectly reproduced. The assistant should distinguish observed pipeline facts from the forecasting assumptions applied to them. A weighted total does not become a guarantee because a language model describes it confidently. Keep the method and the uncertainty visible when presenting the number.
Ask what evidence supports statements about likely upside or risk. Changes in stage or close date may suggest questions for the sales team, but they do not independently prove customer intent. The useful role of the conversation is to help the manager identify the next investigation, not to replace a qualified forecast judgment with unsupported certainty.
Define a passing demonstration
Agree that a pass requires the correct population, calculation, currency, period, and material caveats. A matching total with a different population is insufficient. Likewise, a small numerical difference should be explained rather than automatically dismissed. The tolerance should follow the business use and the source's conventions.
Bring the official forecast report to a Nexatron session and ask for a reconciliation worksheet as the outcome. That worksheet should identify what matched, what differed, why it differed, and who owns any remaining issue. It creates a credible basis for wider adoption because the business can see how a conversational answer relates to the numbers already used to run the organization.
Keep a difference log
Record each discrepancy with its amount, affected population, suspected cause, and resolved explanation. A small structured log prevents the team from revisiting the same currency or stage issue during every session. It also distinguishes a known, accepted reporting difference from an unresolved defect. Only close a discrepancy when the report owner can explain why the two views agree or legitimately differ.
